OPPORTUNITIES
UNDERGRADUATE FINAL YEAR PROJECT
Seeking HKU undergraduate students to join the lab to conduct final year project research on sea-level change of the China coast. The FYP students will receive training in one or more of the following area:
-
Sample collection in mangrove and intertidal environments.
-
Sample preparation and physical (e.g. grain-size analysis), biological (e.g. foraminifera, diatoms) and geochemical (e.g. stable isotopes) laboratory techniques.
-
Data analysis, interpretation and archiving of sea-level data.
PHD STUDENTSHIPS AND POSTDOCS
Seeking highly motivated PhD students and/or postdocs interested in research in one or more of the following areas to join the lab:
-
Producing new, high-resolution records of relative sea-level change from tropical, sub-tropical, and temperature locations using microfossil (e.g., foraminifera, diatoms, pollen), geochemical (e.g., stable carbon isotopes), or novel (e.g., DNA signatures) proxies
-
Developing sea-level databases spanning the Last Glacial Maximum to present to reveal spatio-temporal patterns and mechanisms of past relative sea-level change
-
Deciphering mechanisms of paleoenvironmental change and carbon storage in coastal settings
Applicants with a strong undergraduate background are encouraged to apply through the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme: https://cerg1.ugc.edu.hk/hkpfs/index.html
